At Studio Style & Spa we offer FULL body waxing! We get a lot of questions about best practices for prepping for your wax as well as aftercare.
Waxing benefits, longer results (2-4 weeks typically!), smoother skin, less irritation, less ingrown hairs, less hair regrowth (YES, literally less hair grows back after each wax) and less upkeep! Would you rather shave every day or wax once a month?
FACIAL WAXING
PREPPING - We advise scheduling your wax appointment 2-7 days after your last retinol or topical prescription application, 2 weeks after finishing antibiotics, 6mo-1 year after finishing Accutane. You'll want to avoid exfoliating/antiaging products for at least 2-7 days before your appointment depending on the strength of the product.
UPKEEP - Most clients come in every 2-4 weeks for facial waxing upkeep. You'll want to stop using any at home hair removal techniques (tweezing, shaving, etc) at least 2 weeks before, especially for brows so that we can shape them properly. Avoid applying makeup directly after your appointment, wait 2-3 days before resuming any exfoliating, topicals etc. Avoid sun exposure and always wear sunscreen to protect the area!
PAIN SCALE - As far as pain scale, brow and chin waxing pain is very minimal! A lip wax is a little more "spicy" but it is over very quickly.
BODY WAXING - Arms, legs, underarms, chest, back.
PREPPING - You'll want to wait 2 weeks after finishing antibiotics, 6mo-1 year after finishing Accutane. Contrary to facial waxing, you'll want to exfoliate the day before your appointment. Wear loose clothing to your appointment. You'll want to stop using any at home hair removal techniques (tweezing, shaving, etc) at least 2 weeks before.
UPKEEP - Most clients come in every 4-6 weeks for body waxing upkeep. Underarms can grow back faster so the upkeep for this can be about every 3 weeks. You'll want to wait 24-48 hours to exfoliate, and then keep up with exfoliating at least every 2-3 days to avoid in grown hair. Moisturizing the area daily will also help with avoiding ingrown hair!
PAIN SCALE - Arms and underarm waxing has very minimal pain, most say it is equivalent to a brow wax. A leg wax has some sensitive areas such as the shin, but most clients talk throughout the appointment without any interruption!
INTIMATE WAXING - Bikini, Extensive Bikini, Brazilian
PREPPING - You'll want to wait 2 weeks after finishing antibiotics, 6mo-1 year after finishing Accutane. Exfoliate and moisturize the area the day before your appointment. Wear loose clothing to your appointment. You'll want to stop using any at home hair removal techniques (tweezing, shaving, etc) at least 2 weeks before. Avoid caffeine, and you can take over the counter pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment.
UPKEEP - Most clients come in every 4-6 weeks for body waxing upkeep. You'll want to wait 24-48 hours to exfoliate, and then keep up with exfoliating at least every 2-3 days to avoid in grown hair. Moisturizing the area daily will also help with avoiding ingrown hair! Avoid any exercise, friction, intimacy, saunas, pools, sweating for 24-48 hours.
PAIN SCALE - Bikini waxing pain is pretty minimal! Certain areas of the brazilian waxing are more spicy, but the backside is basically painless. With intimate waxing we move as fast as possible to make the appointment go by as quickly as possible. Our pulling techniques minimize pain, and we offer a cold cloth to help soothe the area right after the pull. Most clients rebook, so we consider the pain manageable and worth it!
